I read about temperaments decades ago. Knowing people’s temperaments helps you understand why they act the way they do, according to Tim Lahaye in his book, Why You Act the Way You Do. In that book, he went ahead to list the four major temperaments and made it easy for us to identify which was ours and also those that belonged to people we know.
There’s also the horoscope, for those who are into that. Basically, it characterises people’s behavior and actions according to calendars, birth month…and stuff like that.
Then Dr. Kevin Leman, in his book The New Birth Order, categorises certain behaviours based on your place in the family. According to him, firstborns exhibit certain behaviours that are unique to them. The same goes for middle children and last-borns.
The whole study of human behaviours is quite interesting, birthing numerous research studies and intriguing discoveries. But the one that has had me captivated for months now has to do with personality types. We’re going to delve into each personality type as extensively as possible. There are six of them, but the most popular seems to be the Alphas. Alpha males and alpha females are often portrayed as having huge personalities, with everything in control, and always getting what they want or desire. Well, there are also the Beta, Delta, Omega, Gamma, and Sigma personalities, and understanding them could help you settle into that which you recognise to be yours. This article will not cover all of them, so you will have to look out for the others in subsequent publications. They’ll be linked, so it should be easy to find. For now, let’s give Alphas a break and begin with the Gammas.
The major difference between the Alpha and the Gamma personalities is that while the Alpha needs to lead a team to achieve goals, the Gammas pursue their personal goals due to their fiercely independent nature and self-assuredness. They’re on a personal mission to achieve their goals. They need no team or group. They fare well on their own as well as with people.
The typical Gamma knows her value and has zero patience for nonsense. They do not go into any associations until they’re certain they’ll give it their best. Their strengths lie in their ability to be organised, focused, and great planners. They build relationships based solely on quality and value.
They are visionaries and have remarkable drive. If you hang around them long enough, you’ll be pushed to succeed. Their highly motivated selves help them define what success means to them, and hence, they do not go with popular culture. Unlike the Alpha, who is a leader, Gammas aren’t leaders. They are achievers.
Organised, orderly, and routine discipline are words best used to describe them. With an insatiable quest for knowledge and adventure, always looking for new experiences, the Gamma typically goes for what they want. They love people and are usually the life of the party.
To some, they often come off as self-centered and uncaring, but then, a Gamma will always thrive. That’s their superpower.
I hope to cover the Omega, Delta, and Beta personalities in the next article, so hang around.
