In Ikeja, the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court remanded a 27-year-old man, Owolabi Olabisi, in a correctional centre on Monday for an alleged sexual assault on his neighbour’s eight-year-old girl. Olabisi had entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of sexual assault by penetration.
According to state counsel Ms. Abimbola Abolade, the accused committed the offence on Jan. 18, 2023, at Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos, where he purportedly sexually assaulted the victim by penetrating her vagina with a finger. The alleged offence violates the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).
Justice Abiola Soladoye ordered Olabisi’s remand in the correctional facility until the hearing of his bail application. The case is adjourned to Feb. 20 to begin the trial process.
The punishment for sexual assault by penetration in Lagos State stipulates life imprisonment.
