The Director- General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, has reiterated state government’s commitment to safety of lives and property of residents.

Mojola said this in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday in commemoration of the 2020 World Day for Safety and Health Day tagged:  “Stop the Pandemic, Safety and Health can Save Lives.”

He stated that the World Day for Safety and Health, initiated by International Labour Organisation (ILO), was an annual event celebrated globally on 28th April.

Mojola said that ILO initiated the day to create awareness on accident prevention and reduction of work related illnesses and injuries at work places.

According to him, occupational health and safety is a global phenomenon which cannot be ignored or compromised.

He further explained that it was worrisome that COVID-19 infections had posed threats to public health and rise in fatalities, which led to global economic and social lockdowns.

He said the year 2020 World Day for Safety and Health was focused on embracing safe practices in all workplaces and developing means of practical action for the protection of workers and their mental health.

He emphasised the commitment of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensuring a safe and secure environment through various precautionary measures put in place to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.(NAN).
