In Your 40s and Not Made it Yet?

The media has managed to both influence and pressure the world at the same time, especially when they celebrate, spotlight, and applaud people who achieve certain milestones at an early age, so that if one isn’t careful, they may begin to feel like failures and live disappointed lives.

A few other times, seemingly as an afterthought, reference is made to the others who made their fortune when they were well into their late 50s and 60s, in one desperate bid to encourage us. But guess what, the damage may have already been done, as such stories never really do the job well.

Many in their middle ages may struggle to find inspiration from the story of KFC.

But it doesn’t have to be so. Looking around us, as there’s life and hope is still alive, there are many things around us to inspire us daily and get us up and on our way to achieve all we desire. Notice I’ve avoided using the word success because it means different things to people and can’t be gauged through anyone’s lens. Achieving all you desire puts it in a better and broader frame.

First, your mindset is the beginning and the end of this journey. It has to be in the right place for anything positive to grow. Stop blaming anyone if you were. Take full responsibility for your choices and decisions going forward. Whoever hurt or failed you in the past mustn’t continue to keep you grounded. Set them free and fly.

Also, search within and come up with what works. What you’re good at, what you’ve always wanted to learn/pursue—go for it. Give yourself the permission and audacity to go for what you want. Be your support, cheerleader, and No. 1 fan.

This third one will keep you on course. I won’t tell you to cut off all distractions, because even those relationships that seem a waste of time, somehow, still have value. I’d say compartmentalise your relationships. You have to be very intentional about value-based relationships. Know the ones you should devote more time and attention to and the ones, well, not so much.

Improve your finances. A messed-up financial report messes with your psyche and makes you disorganised and not in control. If you’re in debt, set a time frame to have it sorted. If you’re a spendthrift, seek professional help to address the underlying cause. And if your finances need a boost, no. 2 (5th paragraph) is a good place to start.

I always reserve the best for last. Be sure to partner with God in all things. He alone will give you the clarity and direction you need. And also the staying power to bring it all to fruition. He’s always got your back… every single time.

You’ll be fine, so long as you keep moving, doing a little here, a little there.
