The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s Traffic Monitoring and Investigation Unit (TMI) has impounded 57 commercial vehicles and tricycles for various traffic violations. The crackdown, aimed at improving traffic flow and enforcing regulations, took place around the Iyana Ipaja garage and its surrounding roads.
Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the ministry, disclosed the details in a statement on Friday. She emphasised that the operation targeted both inbound and outbound traffic, focusing on areas notorious for congestion.
“During the exercise, 57 commercial vehicles and tricycles were apprehended and impounded for various traffic violations, including illegal parking and picking up passengers at undesignated spots, which led to traffic obstruction,” Ogunlola explained. She added that the enforcement operation successfully cleared the area of vehicular congestion, restoring smooth traffic flow and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
The ministry’s swift action underscores its commitment to maintaining order on Lagos roads. Ogunlola noted, “This operation effectively addressed the traffic issues caused by these infractions, bringing much-needed relief to the area.”
