The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), commonly known as KAI, has confirmed the apprehension of a woman accused of assaulting one of its officials for enforcing regulations regarding expressway crossings.
According to the Agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Lukman Ajayi, the arrest occurred on Tuesday around 12:45 p.m. at Ile-Epo along the Ikeja/Iyana-Ipaja expressway, where the woman was found crossing the 10-lane road.
Ajayi stated, “Despite the availability of a pedestrian bridge in the vicinity, the woman opted to disregard the state’s regulations.” He informed that the woman was promptly taken into custody and brought before a Magistrate court for her actions.
Detailing the incident, Ajayi mentioned, “The lady not only violated the rule against crossing the expressway but also physically assaulted a KAI personnel.” Consequently, she was swiftly charged and subsequently sentenced to either pay a fine of N75,000 or endure four months imprisonment.
Highlighting the importance of adhering to safety measures, the spokesperson reiterated the necessity for pedestrians to utilize designated pedestrian bridges. He also urged residents to refrain from obstructing walkways or selling goods in areas meant for pedestrian use.
Ajayi emphasized the obligation to comply with the State’s Environmental Laws 2010 and its subsequent amendments, stating that there are no alternatives but to obey and abide by these regulations.
