Tragedy strikes: Deputy Commissioner of Police commits suicide in Oyo

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gbolahan Oyedemi, a dedicated officer serving with the Force Criminal and Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos State, has allegedly taken his own life. The incident occurred in his private house in his hometown of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, during the Easter break.

DCP Oyedemi, who had previously served as the Aide de Camp (ADC) to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his 11-month tenure in 2006, was known for his commitment to duty and professionalism. His sudden demise has left colleagues and family members in shock.

According to a source close to the family, DCP Oyedemi had instructed his aides to celebrate the Easter holidays with their families in their respective towns. Alone in his home, he tragically took his own life by hanging himself.

The news of DCP Oyedemi’s suicide has reverberated through law enforcement circles and the wider community. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, prompting an urgent need for investigation. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of FCID, Alagbon, DSP Eguaoje Funmilayo, confirmed the incident but emphasised that an official statement from the Inspector General of Police (IG) was pending. Until further details emerge, speculation and grief fill the void left by this tragic loss.
