No fewer than 12 beach volleyball players are currently in camp at Marina Beach, Badagry, preparing fervently for the upcoming 13th African Games set to unfold in Ghana. The announcement came from Dare Esan, the media coordinator of the Beach Volleyball Federation, who disclosed this development in Lagos on Sunday.

Esan emphasised, “We have a total of 12 players who are intensely gearing up for the prestigious 13th African Games scheduled to be held in Ghana.”

The camping, which commenced on February 8, is slated to conclude on February 23, just in time for the commencement of the games, which will span from March 8 to March 23 in Ghana.

According to Esan, “The players have been in rigorous training, fine-tuning their skills and strategies for the African Games.”

Notable figures within the Beach Volleyball community, Ibrahim Peter and Uchenna Augustine, who clinched the championship title in the 2023 Beach Volleyball Star Tour, headline the men’s roster. Alongside them are Emenike Ezike, Ike Sylvester, Philip Zakka, and Victor Eze, all poised to represent their nation on the sand courts.

On the women’s front, the training ground boasts esteemed talents, including multiple National Champion Francisca Ikihiede, who spearheads the women’s team during the national camp. Supporting her are Esther Mbah, Pamela Bawa, Naomi Yaro, Sarah Sanda, and Dorcas Isaac, each bringing their prowess and dedication to the fold.

Esan further revealed the coaching lineup, stating, “Francis Imoudu and John Iwerima will lead the charge for the men’s team, while Kayode Ajilore and Christy Amadi will helm the women’s team, ensuring they are finely tuned and prepared for the African Games.”

With meticulous preparations underway and talents honed to peak performance, the Beach Volleyball contingent anticipates making waves and securing victories at the 13th African Games in Ghana.
