As the skies opened up with the first rain of 2024, Lagos residents expressed a blend of emotions, reflecting both excitement and frustration over the unexpected weather change in Lagos on Wednesday.
According to gathered information by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), specific areas, including Surulere, Anthony, and Ojuelegba, encountered a brief 20-minute rainfall in the morning, surprising many locals.
Yinka Olufemi, a resident of Surulere, shared her experience, expressing initial excitement at witnessing the rainfall this time of the year. However, her joy was swiftly replaced with disappointment upon finding that the dust accompanying the rain had spoiled her recently washed car.
“Seeing the rain was exciting at first, but my joy quickly turned to dismay as the dust ruined the car I had just cleaned,” Olufemi conveyed to NAN.
Uche Okafor, commuting from Anthony Village to Costain, narrated the sudden shower of rain that occurred along the Anthony/Ojuelegba corridor, further emphasising the unexpectedness of the downpour.
While some encountered inconveniences due to the dust stirred by the rainfall, others expressed a wish for longer rain spells, hoping it would alleviate the intense heat brought on by the ongoing dry season.
