In a thrilling series of encounters during Match Day 14 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gombe United FC held Sunshine Stars FC to a 1-1 draw while Kano Pillars FC secured a hard-fought victory against Remo Stars FC, emerging triumphant with a 2-1 win.

At the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, Sunshine Stars took an early lead through Anietie Uko’s goal in the 32nd minute. Despite dominating the first half, Sunshine Stars failed to capitalise on their opportunities. Gombe United made a stunning comeback, levelling the scoreline in the 71st minute with a remarkable long-range shot.

Coach Edith Agoye expressed disappointment at missed chances, acknowledging, “We played very well in the first half; we created a lot of chances, but unfortunately, we didn’t take our chances.” He lamented the loss of home points and vowed to compensate in the upcoming away match against Akwa United.

Meanwhile, Gombe United’s Head Coach, Mohammed Babaganaru, was pleased with securing an away point, emphasising the team’s intent to maximise home advantage in the next fixture after losing six points in recent home games.

In another NPFL showdown at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar-Mata, Kano Pillars emerged victorious against Remo Stars with a 2-1 win. Mustafa Ibrahim put Pillars ahead in the 50th minute, followed by Dayo Ojo equalising for Remo in the 72nd minute. However, Pillars’ captain, Rabiu Ali, sealed the win with a goal in the 78th minute, much to the delight of the home supporters.

Post-match, Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede praised his team’s performance and attributed their display to the cold weather in Kano. On the opposing side, Pillars’ Coach Abdu Maikaba commended Remo Stars as one of the league’s formidable teams, acknowledging their talent and leadership at the table.

Kano Pillars, now positioned sixth on the league table with 22 points from 14 matches, are gearing up to face Niger Tornadoes in their next game on Thursday in Minna.
