The inaugural edition of the National Skating Championship is set to bring together more than 1,000 athletes at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja from December 1 to 2.
According to Abdullahi Maikano, President of the Skating Federation of Nigeria, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, “We are expecting skaters from all the states in Nigeria; state clubs, individual clubs, and academies will participate in the championship.”
The championship, dubbed ‘Abuja 2023,’ aims to foster unity and competition among skaters from the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as they showcase their prowess in skating.
Maikano assured that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure a conducive and fitting environment for all participants. He emphasized the importance of such events, indicating that they will become an annual affair to facilitate the preparedness of skaters for continental championships.
“We will organize more competitions to keep our skaters fit and ready for any international competition to achieve our dream,” Maikano stated, highlighting the federation’s commitment to nurturing and grooming talented skaters for international success.
Moreover, Maikano added, “There will be a certificate of participation for every athlete at the end of the championship,” underlining the recognition and acknowledgment of the participants’ efforts and dedication to the sport.
