Manchester City’s Erling Haaland made history yet again, notching up a Premier League goal-scoring record but failing to propel his team to victory as the champions were held to a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Haaland, at 23, surged City ahead after 27 minutes, reaching 50 goals in just 48 games, 17 games fewer than the previous record holder, Andy Cole. Despite his feat, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 80th-minute equaliser denied City their 24th successive home win across all competitions.
The result left City with 29 points from 13 games, with Liverpool trailing by a single point. Arsenal’s late 1-0 win at Brentford propelled them to the top spot with 30 points, surpassing both Liverpool and City.
Liverpool’s manager, Juergen Klopp, praised Alexander-Arnold’s impact, stating, “Trent was super-influential today… a really important player and a really good game from him.”
Arsenal, despite a lacklustre performance, claimed victory with Kai Havertz’s late header. Manager Mikel Arteta emphasized their resilience, saying, “We showed a lot of resilience and belief.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United, prompting manager Mauricio Pochettino to vow immediate action, stating, “We will go to the hotel, then train early tomorrow; no time off.”
In other matches, Brighton rallied to win 3-2 against Nottingham Forest, securing victory despite ending with 10 men. Luton Town secured their first home win since returning to the top flight, beating Crystal Palace 2-1.
However, bottom club Burnley’s search for their first home point continues after conceding late in a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United, while Bournemouth claimed a 3-1 away win against Sheffield United.
