Gbajabiamila: Quality education key to Nigerian youths’ relevance in global economy

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has emphasised the transformative power of quality education in empowering Nigerian youths during his lecture at Yaba College of Technology’s 35th Convocation. Focused on “Empowering Nigerian Youths in the Present Day Economy,” Gbajabiamila highlighted the need for an education system aligned with global labour needs and technological advancements.

He stressed the importance of a revamped curriculum that fosters disruptive thinking and innovation, urging a shift from traditional skills acquisition to reinvention. Gbajabiamila noted the evolving nature of work, emphasising the necessity of preparing youths for an era where technological advancements like AI and blockchain redefine job landscapes.

Calling for a collaborative effort between higher institutions and the private sector, he advocated for bridging knowledge gaps and redefining the future of employment. Gbajabiamila also highlighted the Student Loan Bill, assuring that access to financing would be impartial and focused on empowering young individuals through emerging technologies.

Additionally, he urged graduating students to view their education as a stepping stone, encouraging lifelong learning and adaptability. The Senate President, represented by Human Rights Activist Monday Ubani, echoed the need for youth mindset reengineering and resilience in the face of challenges.

YABATECH’s Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, emphasised the significance of empowering youths in a rapidly evolving global economy. Gbajabiamila and Akpabio were honoured during the convocation for their contributions to youth empowerment and national development.
