Police in Lagos State released musician Naira Marley and label owner Sam Larry from custody on Friday after meeting their bail conditions. The duo had been held in connection with the mysterious death of rapper Mohbad back in October.
Confirming their release, police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin stated, “Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, having met their bail conditions, have been released from custody.”
Mohbad, a musician who passed away under puzzling circumstances on September 12, 2023, was the centre of the investigation. His death led to a nationwide uproar, prompting the Lagos State government to order a coroner’s inquest after protests erupted.
Police investigations included questioning Mohbad’s family, friends, and associates. Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse, was named the prime suspect. Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa revealed that Ogedengbe allegedly administered three injections to Mohbad before his fatal decline.
According to Owohunwa, Mohbad attended a concert where an altercation with his childhood friend, Primeboy, resulted in an injury that later proved fatal. He stated, “The management of the injury subsequently resulted in his death.”
While Mohbad’s tragic demise remains under investigation, Naira Marley and Sam Larry have been released on bail, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the case.
