Ikeja Electric (IE) celebrated its 10th anniversary by announcing the successful deployment of 830,292 meters to its customers over the past decade. The statement, released on Friday in Lagos by Mr. Kingsley Okotie, Head of Media Communication, quoted the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, as she highlighted this achievement during the event.
Soetan emphasised the company’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations. She stated, “We successfully deployed 830,292 meters to our customers, giving them control over their energy consumption and fostering a sense of empowerment.”
As part of the 10th-anniversary celebration, the board and management of Ikeja Electric organised a hybrid session to showcase past achievements and plans for the immediate future.
Soetan expressed her appreciation for the team and highlighted several industry firsts achieved in the past decade. Among these accomplishments, IE became the first distribution company to attain all three categories of global certifications in 2019: ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System), and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System).
Soetan commended the dedication and hard work of the team, which contributed to these certifications. She also noted a significant reduction in Aggregate Technical Commercial & Collection losses, dropping from 44 per cent in 2015 to just below 20 per cent in the current year. This achievement reflected the collective efforts in operational efficiency and sustainable energy practices.
Soetan underlined the importance of the team’s dedication to giving back to host communities and families through the Employee Volunteer Scheme.
Dr. Kola Adesina, Chairman of the Board of Directors, acknowledged the dedication and agility displayed by the staff over the years. He highlighted Ikeja Electric’s transformation, which began in 2013 when they strategically rebranded from IKEDC to IE in 2015. He noted the DisCo’s history-making achievements, such as launching a bilateral project in 2019 and introducing a 24-hour dedicated service for bilateral operations.
Adesina emphasised the company’s commitment to providing seamless service and setting new industry standards. He highlighted the focus on exceptional service delivery, including the adoption of automated payment channels to make transactions more efficient for customers.
Mr. Toibudeen Oduniyi, the Director of the Post Transaction Management Department in the Bureau of Public Enterprises and a board member of IE, congratulated the staff and expressed optimism about the company’s innovative spirit. He encouraged the staff to remain committed to delivering exceptional service to their customers, stating, “I am assured that individually and collectively, you will keep attaining new levels, retaining your position as an industry leader.”
