Expected thunderstorms over Lagos Area as NIMET predicts weekend weather

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) anticipates a weather pattern transitioning from thunderstorms to sunshine and haziness over the coming weekend.

NiMet’s Weather Outlook, released from Abuja, offers a glimpse into the forecast for Friday to Sunday. The prediction begins with Friday’s projection of sunny skies coupled with hazy conditions prevailing across the northern region. Additionally, the northern states of Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba can expect clear skies intermixed with patches of clouds.

The forecast further details that the North Central region will experience cloudy conditions with intermittent sunshine throughout the forecast period. However, thunderstorms are expected in Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kogi.

Moving southwards, the southern parts of the country are anticipated to observe cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine. Morning thunderstorms are on the horizon for areas encompassing Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are projected to affect several states, including Osun, Ondo, Imo, Ebonyi, Oyo, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Ado-Ekiti, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

The weekend outlook unveils Saturday’s forecast, characterised by sunny skies and hazy conditions for the northern region. Taraba State, however, may experience a few thunderstorms throughout the day. In the North Central, cloudy skies accompanied by intervals of sunshine are expected, with isolated thunderstorms forecast for Benue and Kogi states, along with the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa in the afternoon and evening hours.

For the southern parts of Nigeria, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are in the forecast, including morning thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms may impact regions spanning Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Ado-Ekiti, Ebonyi, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

Concluding the weekend forecast, Sunday’s weather over the northern region is expected to consist of sunny skies and haziness. The North Central region will observe cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine. In the southern parts of the country, there is a likelihood of isolated thunderstorms over areas including Imo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River during the afternoon and evening hours.
