Four people were hurt and one person killed in a multi-vehicle accident in the city of Lagos, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Thursday.
According to a statement released in Lagos by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident occurred at the Cele bus stop inside Mile 2.
“On arrival of the agency’s LRT at the scene, it was discovered that there was a multiple accident involving a MACK truck with an unknown registration number conveying twin 20ft containers,” he said.
Other automobiles at the site of the collision, according to Oke-Osanyintolu, were a Toyota RAV4, a Highlander SUV, and a Volkswagen bus.
He said that evidence gathered at the site showed that the truck driver had lost control and struck the automobiles in front of him.
“Unfortunately an adult male, the bus driver, lost his life to the incident while four injured victims — three males and one female, have been transported to the hospital,” he said.
The responders at the site were the agency’s LRT, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the agency’s paramedics, and the police.
“The remains of the deceased have been bagged and handed over to the relatives,” he said.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency sought police protection to oversee the safety of the first responders.
In a statement, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority also claimed that its employees were helping with the rescue effort.
