Digital marketing expert, Celestine Mmaduabuchi Mmadueke has called on young business owners and students affected by the ASUU strike to maximise the many chances that the digital space offers to build a desirable future for themselves.
He said that with the right digital marketing skills, young people can benefit enormously from the abundant opportunities that the digital space provides.
Mmadueke who is the CEO, Kings Elite, stated this in Lagos on Tuesday during a four-day-long master class organised by the company to empower young people with digital marketing skills.
Speaking with LM, Mr. Mmadueke stated that his utmost desire is to see young people soar above their limitations by simply availing themselves of the opportunities that exist on the internet.
“I organise digital marketing training due to my belief that in this digital age, we need to have digital skills to maximize the enormous opportunities the digital space provides. Small business owners based in Ajegunle Lagos can utilize digital marketing to attract more sales and grow their businesses. The unemployed and students affected by the ASUU strike can utilise digital marketing skills to generate income online legitimately.”
While admonishing the youths, the convener of the event, Mmadueke further stated that the digital space should not be a place where young people go to waste their valuable time and data on entertainment and frivolities, but a place they go to acquire more knowledge, skills, and capacity to grow themselves and brand.
“Unfortunately, during the ASUU strikes, most students waste their time wallowing in irrelevant activities. Meanwhile, such a long strike avails them the opportunity to build skills, especially digital skills that will enable them to start a business and generate income while still studying.
“It is always better to learn a skill when you are young because young people tend to have a more retentive memory. Young people in business can maximize digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, WhatsApp, etc to market their products, services, and skills.
“The benefits of digital skills are enormous and people need to start exploring the abundant opportunities the digital space provides. At Kings Elite, we have been organizing free digital marketing training since 2010, and we decided to accelerate the training in 2016 when the economic recession hit Nigeria.
In 2016, we organised free digital marketing training for almost a year, teaching SMEs and individuals how they can leverage the internet to attract more customers and generate more revenue. We have since then trained thousands of people on digital marketing and most of them have gone ahead to grow their businesses with digital skills. Individuals have also started generating income for themselves through the knowledge they gained in our training.”
Also speaking with our correspondent, David Oladapo one of the trainers affirmed that Canva has made designing much more easier than it used to be, “With interactive tools like Canva anybody can become a guru in graphics design creation, and this is what I’ve taught for a while now.
“There is a high demand for digital skills in our world today, and for the youths, it is much easier to understand these things, all that is needed is your interest. Even better, it has been made much easier to understand and practicalise than it was some few years back, so this is the right time to learn and start making something tangible for yourself.”
In addition to that, Hunsa Solomon Oluwasegun, a web design expert and developer noted that “There are a lot of youths out there who spend about a good number of their time on social media throwing jabs at one another but only a few spend time leveraging on the unending opportunities in the digital world.
“Web design & development is a good way to start. According to the US Bureau of labour, the job market for web developers is expected to grow by 15% by 2026. It’s also the most in-demand job title out there. Not leveraging on this is what I will term “time suicide”. The future is now!” He added.
The training which kicked off on Monday the 26th with an introduction to digital marketing/Search Engine Optimisation, and continued today with Facebook marketing, will continue tomorrow with Canva graphics designs/video creation and is scheduled to come to a wrap on Thursday the 29th with sessions on email marketing and content creation.
