Lagos Court incarcerates 22-year-old painter for allegedly defiling neighbours’ daughter

Ifeanyi Onyega, a 22-year-old painter, has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, on Thursday in Lagos for allegedly defiling his neighbours’ 16-year-old daughter.

Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, the Magistrate, who did not heed Onyega’s plea, instructed that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Tanimola then adjourned the case until Oct. 21 for the DPP’s advice.

The defendant, who resides at Adebimpe Street in the Kosofe area of Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of defilement.

The prosecutor, Mr. Donjour Perezi, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 31, at his residence.

Perezi said that the defendant had lured the victim into his room on the pretext of sending her on an errand, but instead forcefully had canal knowledge of her, while threatening to harm her if she told anybody.

“The girl, however, told her mother and the case was reported to the police,” the prosecutor said.

He said the offence violated Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for defilement.
