They are longtime friends who are both proud to hail from Havana, Cuba.

And now Gloria Estefan and Andy Garcia will star together in the upcoming remake of The Father Of The Bride.

History: Garcia and Estefan are longtime friends who starred together in in the 2000 biological made-for-television drama film, For Love Or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story

The three-time Grammy winner confirmed she had signed on to play Garcia’s onscreen wife in the new reboot that will be told through the relationships within a big Cuban American family.

‘A resounding yes was my answer to the invitation to join my good friend, the incredibly talented Andy Garcia, for this new and wonderfully warm and funny incarnation of the classic, “Father Of The Bride”!’ Estefan, 63, said on Instagram on Friday.

Mexico native Gaz Alazraki, who directed Club de Cuervos, has been tapped to helm the feature, which is being produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B, the production company behind the Oscar-nominated drama film, Minari.

‘I’ve been a fan of Director, Gaz Alazraki, since I saw his record breaking comedy, “Nosotros Los Nobles” and can’t wait to experience how he brings this amazing script by Matt Lopez to life,’ she added.

Garcia, 65, sounded equally enthused to have his old friend join the cast when he announced the news on his Instagram page.

‘So excited to welcome my dear friend, the extraordinary @gloriaestefan to the Father of the Bride family! Ahora sí!’ he wrote in the caption of the very same photo of the pair.

This is the latest reboot in the franchise, which first began with Spencer Tracey and Elizabeth Taylor in the roles of the father and bride for the 1950 film of the same name and the 1951 sequel, Father’s Little Dividend.

It would be revived in 1991 with Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams in the leading titular roles, which also included the 1995 sequel, Father Of The Bride Part II, and  mini-second sequel titled Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish) that dropped on Netflix’s official YouTube and Facebook in 2020.

In this latest remake, Garcia steps into the role of the father of the soon-to-be bride, played by Adria Arjona, who struggles to come to terms with his daughter’s nuptials.

According to Deadline, the new remake will be more of a romantic-comedy than previous versions of film, and that it will be more in the vein of the original Spencer Tracy led film.

Estefan and Garcia previously worked together in the 2000 biological made-for-television drama film, For Love Or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, which chronicled the famed Cuban jazz musician.

The Conga singer’s acting resume also includes playing the mother of the late Naya Rivera’s character’s mom in Glee (2012, 2015), and Mirtha in season three of the Netflix reimagined series One Day At A Time (2017). (Mail 0nline)
