Senator Remi Tinubu invokes Nigerians’ determination to do right

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing the Lagos Central Senatorial District, on Friday said Nigeria’s democracy has deepened the quest by Nigerians to do what is right.

In her Democracy Day message entitled, A Call to Obey, Senator Tinubu, said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was on the right path.

She said:

.”It has not been a smooth sailing journey. The result however has been increased determination to do right by Nigerians and leave a Country that generations unborn can be proud of. The President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is on the right path, given its antecedents in the last few years, and in particular its response to the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic.”

She used the occasion to congratulate Nigerians on the commemoration of Democracy Day.

“I felicitate with Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the commemoration of Democracy Day, 2020.  A little over twenty-one (21) years ago, on May 29th 1999, a democratically elected government was inaugurated, ushering in the fourth republic and commencing the longest stretch of democratic rule in Nigerian history.”

Tinubu said the occasion was “a reminder of our collective will and decision to be governed by democratic ideals. For students of governance, history and democrats, the significance of June 12, 1993 and the ensuing struggle is not lost.”

She commended President Muhammadu Buhari “for designating June 12 as Nigeria’s rightful Democracy Day.”

According to her, “this Democracy Day celebration calls for even greater commitment to guarding our democracy, while working together to realize the vision of our founding fathers – ‘one Nation bound in freedom, peace and unity’.”

“We must also ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of gender, tribe, creed, religion and political affiliations, is safe and protected, refusing to coddle violent and discordant elements in our various Communities.”

She concluded by saying that the the labour of the country’s past heroes, should never be in vain.
