The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, encouraged hotel owners nationwide on Thursday to establish a regulatory organisation that could collaborate with the police to reduce crime in hotels.

Alabi made the request while being represented by CSP Joshua Nkereuwem at the Lagos Tourism Roundtable, which was held in Lagos and organised by the Institute of Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN).

Its title was “Lagos Tourism: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.”

The commissioner, who criticised the actions of online scammers and prostitutes at hotels, claimed that hoteliers must now collaborate with the authorities to address the problem.

“I think it is high time the hoteliers create a regulatory body that can work with us to curb the atrocities carried out in hotels by prostitutes and the Yahoo boys.

“We need this regulatory body in the area of information gathering so that swift action can be taken to guide against evil occurrences in hotels.

“The Police needs human treatment, take us as those with blood flowing in their veins,” he said.

Alabi also suggested that for adequate oversight, the state government install CCTV and street cameras all across the state.
