To navigate a possible massive upheaval that may follow the commencement of the new Lagos Island Model City Plan, the Lagos State Government has sought the cooperation of the Lagos Island Local Government and the Lagos Island Local Council Development Area on the preparation of the plan.
Speaking during the advocacy visit to the Local Councils, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako explained that the visit was to intimate the leadership of the councils about the project and introduce Messrs Dar-Handasa as its Consultants.
Representing the Commissioner, the Director, Regional and Master Plan, Tpl. Lateef Oladeinde, said that Lagos Island is the only Local Government Area without a Model City Plan to guide its development, adding that there is an urgent need to position Lagos Island appropriately as the commercial nerve centre of the country, in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of making Lagos a 21st Century Economy.
“Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu led administration awarded the preparation of the Lagos Island Model City Plan with a view to ultimately transform the axis for the benefit of the State”, Dr. Salako asserted.

The representative of Dar-Handersal, Arc. Muhammed Ramadan, called for the cooperation of the Local Government Chairmen throughout the process of preparing the plan, especially during the house to house survey that would soon be conducted to generate data for the Model City Plan.
The Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government, Mr. Adetoyese Olusi, said that the preparation of the Lagos Island Model City Plan was a welcome development for a city with limited land space, hoping it would catalyse the provision of basic infrastructure in the area.
