U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked the security clearances of former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and several other political figures in a sweeping move against his Democratic and Republican critics.
In a memorandum issued late Friday, Trump stated, “I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information.” The list also includes former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former Representative Liz Cheney, and former Biden White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
The revocations, which also extend to Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican congressman, and Fiona Hill, a Russia expert who served in Trump’s first term, come as the president intensifies his efforts to sideline political opponents.
This decision follows Trump’s earlier revocation of former President Joe Biden’s security clearance, a move that broke with the long-standing tradition of allowing former presidents to receive intelligence briefings. The decision further deepens Washington’s growing political divide as Trump seeks to consolidate power during his second term.
While the immediate impact of the revocations is unclear, national security experts suggest it signals Trump’s intent to reshape the U.S. intelligence landscape and limit access to classified information for those he deems adversaries.
