Kemi Adeosun reacts to controversy surrounding Badenoch’s comments on Nigeria

In the wake of the controversy sparked by Kemi Badenoch’s recent comments about Nigeria, former Nigerian Finance Minister and British citizen, Kemi Adeosun, has voiced her opinion on the matter. Adeosun, who resigned from her position in 2018 amid a certificate scandal, took to her Facebook page to share a picture with the caption, “Leave Kemi alone.”

In a statement accompanying the post, Adeosun said, “Couldn’t resist this one…..I know, I know. I’m staying out of trouble . My Nigeria experience like life itself has been varied but in everything and at all times I am grateful to God. As 2025 beckons, I look for reasons to be thankful. Notice I did not mention D….😃”

Adeosun’s reaction comes amidst a heated debate over Badenoch’s remarks, which have been criticised for painting a negative picture of Nigeria on the global stage. Vice President Kashim Shettima also weighed in, urging Badenoch to “remove the Kemi from her name” if she was not proud of her Nigerian heritage.

The controversy has sparked a flurry of responses on Nigerian social media, with many users expressing disappointment over Badenoch’s comments. Some have defended her right to free speech, while others argue that her statements could harm Nigeria’s international reputation.

Adeosun’s post and statement have added another layer to the ongoing discourse, highlighting the complex relationship that Nigerians, especially those in the diaspora, have with their homeland. While some view her comments as a reflection of the challenges faced by the country, others believe they contribute to a negative narrative.
