Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the anticipated completion of two critical infrastructure projects in Lagos by 2025: the Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub and the Psychiatric Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute. These developments, situated in the Ketu-Ejirin axis of Epe, are set to bolster the state’s economy and enhance residents’ quality of life.
During a working visit on Saturday with State Executive Council members and journalists, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the transformative impact of the logistics hub. “This project will ensure food sufficiency for Lagosians and stabilise market prices,” the Governor stated. The hub, spanning 220 hectares, is the largest of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, with advanced facilities like cold and dry storage. Phase One is slated for delivery in the second quarter of 2025.
The Governor further assured residents that the hub would significantly reduce food prices across Lagos markets. “We are committed to food sustainability and food security,” he said, highlighting ongoing middle-level market projects in Ajah, Festac, and Oregun that will integrate with the hub. Additionally, the facility will feature a truck park and Africa’s largest abattoir, capable of housing 14,000 cattle.
Prince Samuel Joseph Samuel, Managing Director of Origin Technology Group, a key partner on the logistics project, expressed optimism about its economic impact. “This hub will transform Ketu-Ejirin and its environs, boosting Lagos’s agricultural sector,” he noted.
The Psychiatric Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute, a 500-bed facility spread over 25 hectares, is scheduled for completion in late 2025. According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the institute will address mental health challenges and drug abuse issues in the state. “This will be the largest psychiatric and rehabilitation center in Sub-Saharan Africa, offering extensive psychosocial support and modern health facilities,” he explained.
Both projects reflect the Lagos State Government’s drive for innovation and infrastructure development. These initiatives align with the #AGreaterLagosRising agenda, positioning the state as a leader in urban resilience and healthcare in Africa.
