Nigeria is gearing up for the International Continental Cup 2024 in Anadia, Portugal, with a team of 13 gymnasts, comprising 11 females and 2 males. The team, led by Anthony Asuquo, head coach of Tony International Gymnastics Club (TIG), will depart Nigeria on November 6, 2024, for the competition scheduled from November 8 to 101.
The Nigerian gymnasts, aged between six and 19 years, have undergone rigorous training to prepare for the tournament. “Our gymnasts have undergone rigorous training and are fully prepared for the tournament,” Asuquo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The team’s preparation has been thorough, with all arrangements and documentation finalised by the relevant government agencies.
The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) team includes Angela Marinoni (Category D), Chenille Okpanku (Category C), David Dida (Category D), Fransica Okpanku (Category E), Desire Enahoro-Agbi (Category E), Brianna Eze-Primacy (Category E), Aurelia Ehiogu (Category C), Kaka Shaba (Category E), Igonga Shaba (Category E), Chukwumnadigide Oguegbulu (Category E), and Enamhe Hillary (Category E). The Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) team will be represented by Brian Eze-Primacy (Category E) and Samuel Abdulrahmon (Category D).
Asuquo expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well and make Nigeria proud. “We are going with 13 gymnasts for the qualification and the gymnasts representing the country are between the ages of six to 19 years,” he said. “Our gymnasts have undergone rigorous training and are fully prepared for the tournament. We will depart the country on Wednesday, Nov1. 6 to participate in the competition.”
The Nigerian gymnasts are aiming for podium finishes at the International Continental Cup 2024. “We believe in our team’s potential and are optimistic about their performance,” Asuquo added.
