Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre (Grooming Centre), a leading Nigerian NGO focused on empowering the economically active poor, has completed an extensive renovation of St. Peter’s Secondary School, Awomnuzie, in Ikwuano Local Government Area, Abia State. In partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, this transformation delivers advanced educational facilities to the school, setting a new benchmark for quality education in the region.
The renovation equips St. Peter’s with modernised classrooms, laboratories for physics, chemistry, and biology, and new computer labs, as well as administrative offices, creating a digitally-enabled environment. “Empowering communities goes beyond providing financial services; it’s about shaping a future where poverty is reduced through education and opportunity,” said Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, Founder and CEO of Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre. “We believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to quality education, which is why initiatives like this are at the heart of what we do.”
Founded in 2006, Grooming Centre has consistently fostered social impact through initiatives like these, moving beyond financial inclusion to expand educational access. “The management of Grooming Centre, led by Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, has provided students with an enabling environment that nurtures future leaders. Their commitment to quality education is making a huge impact on the lives of these students, and we are grateful,” remarked Most Rev. Michael Ukpong, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia.
The school renovation project joins other educational initiatives under Grooming Centre’s umbrella. Recently, at the 8th Lady Kate Okafor Scholarship Scheme ceremony held in Lagos on October 18, Grooming Centre awarded scholarships to 931 secondary school students, covering their Senior Secondary School fees. Through this support, the NGO aims to offer a solid foundation for deserving students to build promising futures.
These initiatives underscore Grooming Centre’s vision of cultivating a well-rounded, educated populace equipped for the modern world.
