The Lagos State Government has completed and reopened the Ojota and Maryland sections of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge ahead of schedule, bringing much-needed relief to commuters and residents. The project aims to reduce travel time and improve interconnectivity and is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in one of Lagos’ busiest corridors.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during the reopening ceremony, stated, “This project is a testament to our commitment to improving the infrastructure and quality of life for Lagosians. By completing the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge ahead of schedule, we are ensuring that our residents spend less time in traffic and more time being productive”.
The bridge, which had been under construction for several months, is part of a broader initiative to enhance the transportation network across Lagos. The project includes the expansion of roadways, installation of modern traffic management systems, and the creation of pedestrian-friendly pathways.
Local business owner, Adeola Akinyemi, expressed her relief at the reopening, saying, “The completion of this bridge is a game-changer for us. It means faster deliveries, more customers, and less stress for everyone involved”.
Residents in the surrounding areas have already begun to notice the positive impact. “Traffic used to be a nightmare, especially during rush hours,” said commuter Tunde Balogun. “Now, with the bridge open, my daily commute has been cut in half”.
The Lagos State Government has emphasized that this project is just one of many aimed at transforming the city’s infrastructure. “We are committed to creating a Lagos that works for everyone,” Governor Sanwo-Olu added. “The Odo Iya Alaro Bridge is a significant step in that direction”.
