The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists contributing to traffic congestion at filling stations across the state. This follows a notable resurgence in fuel queues, which has led to significant disruptions on Lagos roads.
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki urged drivers to avoid obstructive behavior while waiting for fuel. “We’ve deployed additional officers to monitor traffic around fuel stations due to the increasing reports of long queues,” Bakare-Oki stated.
The increase in traffic jams has been attributed to motorists parking indiscriminately, blocking major roads as they wait for fuel. Bakare-Oki expressed frustration with the situation, stating, “The current fuel scarcity does not justify causing traffic disruptions. Our goal is to ensure free-flowing roads, and fuel queues should not become a burden for other road users in Lagos.”
Emphasising the importance of effective traffic management, Bakare-Oki highlighted the role it plays in the state’s multi-modal transportation system. He also called for public cooperation to support the ‘T.H.E.M.E. +’ agenda of the current administration, which aims to foster socio-economic development and enhance public safety.
To facilitate better communication, Bakare-Oki encouraged motorists to utilize LASTMA’s new toll-free call centre at 080000527862 for reporting issues, providing feedback, or sharing commendations.
