Traffic incidents cause delays on Ikorodu Road and Ogudu

Two separate traffic incidents on Sunday caused significant disruptions on major roads in Lagos. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that both accidents involved trucks and led to temporary road blockages.

The first incident occurred at Palmgrove, inward Obanikoro along Ikorodu Road. At 6:20 am, LASEMA responded to distress calls about an accident involving a white Toyota Venza, registration number MUS 450 GR, and a truck loaded with scrap metals, registration number ALK-215XA.

According to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, “The driver of the white Toyota Venza, while on top speed, lost control and crashed into the stationary truck.” Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the driver of the Toyota Venza was trapped in his vehicle.

The LASEMA Response Team from the Cobra Base at Onipanu extricated the driver using sophisticated Light Rescue Equipment. The driver received immediate medical attention from LASAMBUS at the scene before being transported to the Trauma Centre at General Hospital Gbagada. The white Toyota Venza was towed to Pedro Police Station, while the truck remained at the scene due to mechanical issues. The incident scene was handed over to LASTMA officials pending further action.

The second incident was reported at 3:42 pm at Ogudu, inward Iyana Oworo. A truck with registration number LSD 494 XL suffered a mechanical error that led to a locked steering rack, causing the truck to fall sideways and completely block the road. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital before the arrival of LASEMA’s Response Team.

LASEMA has deployed heavy-duty equipment, including the ‘Goliath’ giant forklift, to clear the truck from the road. The operation is ongoing, with assistance from LASTMA and the Nigeria Police Force.

LM will keep monitoring for updates.
