Defence forces strike hard: 187 terrorists neutralised, 183 arrested, 109 hostages rescued in one week

In a powerful display of military might, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that troops eliminated 187 terrorists, apprehended 183 others, and rescued 109 kidnapped hostages in various operations nationwide over the past week.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, revealed these successes during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. The operations also saw the recovery of 128 assorted weapons and 3,300 rounds of ammunition, including 80 AK-47 rifles and 15 locally fabricated guns.

In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai achieved significant victories in Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Kukawa, Chibok, Damboa, Kaga, Gamboru-Ngala, and Konduga areas of Borno. Troops neutralized 97 terrorists, arrested 45 suspects, and rescued 21 hostages, recovering a substantial cache of weapons.

Operation Safe Haven in the North Central region saw the elimination of 11 insurgents, the arrest of 29 violent extremists, and the rescue of 20 hostages in Plateau and Kaduna states. Similarly, Operation Whirl Stroke conducted successful offensives in Nasarawa, Abuja, Taraba, and Benue, neutralizing four terrorists and rescuing 11 hostages.

In the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji neutralized 47 terrorists and rescued 33 hostages, while Operation Whirl Punch in the same region reported the elimination of 21 terrorists and the rescue of 22 hostages.

In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe maintained pressure on crude oil thieves, destroying numerous illegal refining sites and recovering over a million litres of stolen crude oil and other products. The operation also led to the arrest of 43 suspects and the destruction of various equipment used in illegal activities.

In the South East, Operation UDO KA neutralized four terrorists and rescued two hostages, while Operation AWATSE in the South West reported the elimination of three terrorists and the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
