Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the Dangote Foundation for its substantial donation aimed at alleviating the economic struggles faced by Lagos residents. The foundation’s contribution of 80,000 10kg bags of rice and 4,500,000 loaves of bread is part of a broader national food intervention programme.
During the programme’s launch at Lagos House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of such philanthropic efforts: “In these challenging times, Aliko Dangote’s commitment to the vulnerable is a beacon of hope. We are thankful for the support that complements our government’s initiatives,” he said.
The governor also encouraged other affluent Nigerians to follow Dangote’s example, emphasising that the food distribution would bolster the state’s efforts to mitigate the economic difficulties.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Foundation, explained that the donation was prompted by the soaring food prices affecting the country. “Our goal is to ensure equitable distribution across all states, partnering with NGOs and faith-based organisations to reach the most vulnerable,” Dangote stated.
He further noted that the initiative, which coincides with the holy month of Ramadan and Lent, extends beyond religious boundaries, aiming to support all Nigerians during these trying times. “We are committed to reaching every corner of the nation, upholding the values of compassion and solidarity that define our humanity,” Dangote added.
