The Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, together with the leadership team of the Lekki Estate Resident and Stakeholders Association (LERSA), have initiated measures to tackle transportation hurdles across the Lekki peninsula.
According to the President of LERSA, Alhaji Sulyman Bello, speaking in Lagos on Saturday, the initiative aims to significantly enhance residents’ quality of life within the axis.
LERSA represents businesses, residents, and stakeholders from the 1004 axis to the Epe corridor.
Bello stressed the significance of the meeting in proffering solutions to the transportation bottlenecks plaguing the area, emphasizing, “This meeting is critical to addressing and proposing solutions to the transportation challenges affecting the area.”
During the meeting, Mr. Femi Oke, Chairman of the LERSA Transportation Committee, highlighted various areas for improvement in traffic management and enforcement to curb traffic offenses and bolster overall transportation efficacy.
Oke underscored the necessity for specialized enforcement teams in construction zones and peak time management squads. He also advocated for the deployment of monster trucks for towing obstructive vehicles, particularly in strategic zones like the Lekki Port and Refinery.
Furthermore, Oke urged the establishment of zonal patrol units, an augmentation of transportation personnel, and the exploration of alternative transportation modes such as rail and water transport.
He remarked, “It is also important to have the installation of truck barriers on the Jubilee bridge and the use of technology, such as cameras, to monitor and penalize traffic violators.”
In response, the Commissioner offered insightful feedback on each concern, elaborating on the state’s initiatives to tackle these challenges and elevate living standards within the Lekki Peninsula and Lagos at large.
He reiterated his commitment to furnishing actionable solutions aligned with the Governor of Lagos’s vision of positioning Lagos as a model state for emulation.
