The police command in Lagos State has apprehended three individuals, including a teenager, allegedly involved in organising a street carnival that led to a disturbance of public peace by shutting down a street and blocking traffic flow. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, officially confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Saturday evening.
“The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the police command conducted the arrest around 12:23 p.m. on Abatti Street, Shasha Akowonjo area,” stated Hundeyin, highlighting the location of the arrest. The individuals were taken into custody for orchestrating the carnival, an act deemed to be in violation of certain laws in Lagos State.
The arrested persons, all males aged 16, 42, and 43, were allegedly responsible for staging the carnival, disregarding regulations set forth by the state. This action prompted the intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, who directed the RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, to ensure strict enforcement against those attempting to contravene the law.
“CP Fayoade had prior discussions with the carnival organisers, advising them to secure a venue and refrain from closing streets or causing disturbances,” added Hundeyin, emphasising the police’s efforts to counsel the event organisers on adhering to lawful conduct.
The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and are set to be arraigned upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
