The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has fulfilled the statutory requirement by publishing the notice of the forthcoming Surulere Federal Constituency I bye-election.
Mrs. Adenike Oriowo, INEC’s Public Affairs Officer in Lagos State, confirmed that the notice was prominently displayed at the commission’s headquarters in Sabo-Yaba and the Surulere Local Government Area Office, in line with the provisions of Section 28 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Oriowo emphasised that INEC has commenced executing the activities outlined in the timetable for the elections and assured that the commission is diligently following the stipulated laws and guidelines for the poll.
She reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to ensuring the conduct of a credible bye-election in the constituency, underscoring the commission’s preparedness for the electoral process.
The election timetable outlines the schedule for various critical activities, including the conduct of party primary elections and the resolution of any disputes arising from these primaries, set to take place between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9.
Commencing from Jan. 18 and concluding on Feb. 1, political parties will officially kick-start and conclude their public campaigns ahead of the election scheduled for Feb. 3, 2024.
The Surulere Federal Constituency I seat was vacated following the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, subsequent to his appointment as Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu after a successful electoral victory.
