CAF raises TotalEnergies AFCON Prize Money by 40% for Côte d’Ivoire 2023

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a substantial 40% increase in prize money for the winner of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire in 2023, with the winner set to receive a significant sum of seven million dollars.

In an official statement on CAF’s website, the organisation announced the boost in prize money allocation for the TotalEnergies AFCON, indicating a substantial increase in rewards for the winners and finalists of the tournament.

Patrice Motsepe, President of CAF, emphasised the significance of this increase and its broader impact on football development: “CAF has made remarkable strides by elevating the AFCON Winner’s prize to seven million dollars, a substantial 40% increase from the previous award. We anticipate that this financial boost will not only support football development but also benefit various stakeholders associated with the sport.”

Motsepe further elaborated on the potential utilisation of this increased prize fund: “I am confident that a portion of the prize money will significantly contribute to advancing football and provide crucial assistance to our member associations in managing their administrative responsibilities.”

The TotalEnergies AFCON 2023 is scheduled to commence on January 13 and conclude on February 11 in Cote d’Ivoire, featuring the participation of 24 nations, marking a pivotal moment in African football.
