Amidst great anticipation, the Super Eagles have commenced their preparations for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. Seventeen players have already gathered at the team’s training camp in Abu Dhabi, marking the start of their campaign.
The team, led by captain Ahmed Musa, along with seasoned players like Kenneth Omeruo, Moses Simon, and Alex Iwobi, landed early at the camp. Head Coach Jose Peseiro welcomed the players, including those from various European leagues such as the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga.
The squad includes players like Semi Ajayi, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, Joe Aribo, and others, showcasing a blend of experienced stars and emerging talents.
The official Twitter handle of the Super Eagles revealed the arrival of these players, signalling the commencement of intensive training sessions in preparation for the AFCON tournament.
Coach Peseiro and his coaching staff wasted no time in initiating training, aiming to build team cohesion and tactical prowess ahead of the tournament.
While the team gears up, more players are expected to join the camp shortly, including key figures like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho, and goalkeepers Stanley Nwabili and Francis Uzoho.
The team’s next training session is scheduled for Thursday, as they intensify their efforts to fine-tune strategies and optimise performance for the tournament.
However, an unfortunate setback occurred as Wilfred Ndidi suffered an injury, leading to his withdrawal from the team. In his place, Royal Antwerp’s Alhassan Yusuf has been called up, emphasising the dynamic nature of the team’s lineup adjustments.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles aim to clinch the AFCON title after a decade-long pursuit, with an assemblage of talent and determination guiding their quest for glory.
