Philanthropic champion honoured for 40 years of football sponsorship

Mr. Polly Emenike, the solitary benefactor behind the Nanka Champions League for over 40 years, recently received commendation and recognition from both the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and the management of Rangers International Football Club (FC) of Enugu.

The league caters specifically to Nanka indigenes spread across Nigeria and has seen the latest triumph by Mkpor branch in the 40th edition, securing a 1-0 victory against Umuahia branch at the NEROS stadium in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Expressing their admiration, Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, praised Emenike’s enduring dedication to both Anambra and football, citing his long-standing support for not just the Nanka Champions League but also the Anambra FA cup over two decades. Anaso highlighted Emenike’s transformative impact, converting the environmentally challenged Nanka Erosion into a top-tier football stadium.

Anaso remarked, “You have been our patron for over 15 years, and your continued contributions to sports development justify that choice. We want to reassure you of our commitment to a continued partnership.”

Ezeaku presented the Rangers FC badge to Emenike and acknowledged the league’s role in nurturing young talents and fostering football careers.

“The Nanka Champions League has provided an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talents and pursue careers in football,” stated Ezeaku. He also announced automatic slots for the top four players from the competition in the next open player screening for the 2024–2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Various entities, including Nanka All Stars and the 11 participating teams in the League, also extended their appreciation to Mr. Emenike for his substantial contributions to sports and community development.
