Lagos State to shut down Third Mainland Bridge for repair from Jan.9, announces traffic schedules

The Lagos State Government has confirmed the continuation of repair works on the Third Mainland Bridge, overseen by the Federal Ministry of Works, commencing on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024. This update was disclosed in a statement by Mr. Seun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos.

Osiyemi elaborated, stating, “The Federal Ministry of Works will proceed with the closure of the Iyana-Oworonshoki-Adeniji-Adele route to facilitate comprehensive repairs to the entire bridge section.”

He outlined the planned schedule to mitigate commuting challenges during the repair period, stating, “From 12 a.m. to 12 noon, the bridge will facilitate Mainland inbound Island travels, while motorists from the Island to the Mainland are advised to utilise Eko Bridge.” Conversely, from noon to midnight, the bridge will accommodate travel from the Island to the Mainland, redirecting Mainland-to-Island traffic to Eko Bridge.

“These timings are strategically aligned with peak traffic periods, aiming to alleviate travel stress,” Osiyemi emphasised, urging residents’ cooperation with the traffic management team.
