In a heartwarming gesture, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State facilitated the reunion of seven children from Bauchi State with their families. This followed the exposure and dismantling of an inter-state child abduction and trafficking ring by the Kano State Police, leading to the arrest of nine suspects across multiple states.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Husseini Gumel, revealed the syndicate’s decade-long operations in the trafficking, abduction, and sale of minors across Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Lagos, Delta, Anambra, and Imo states. The successful dismantling of the syndicate was a result of diligent investigation by the Kano Police Command.
Moved by the commendable efforts of the police, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation while also expressing distress over the discovery of seven children trafficked from Bauchi to Anambra and Lagos. He emphasised parental vigilance as crucial in safeguarding children’s well-being, calling for decisive action by the Bauchi state authorities against the arrested suspects.
Malam Abdulmutallif Sa’ad, speaking on behalf of relieved parents from Bauchi, conveyed gratitude to Governor Yusuf and the Kano Police for reuniting them with their children, pledging increased vigilance moving forward.
The apprehended suspects intercepted with the stolen children at Mariri motor park en route to Lagos and Anambra states, faced imminent legal action. Mrs. Sha’awanatu Yusuf, representing the Bauchi state government, highlighted the unity between Kano and Bauchi states for the greater good. She assured that the suspects would face justice as per the law.
Governor Yusuf, displaying empathy, extended financial aid, donating N500,000 to each of the seven recovered children to support their transition back to their families embrace.
