Nigerian Breweries Plc disclosed a significant shift in its board composition, notably the resignation of Chairman Mr. Asue Ighodalo, as confirmed by the Company’s Secretary, Mr. Uaboi Agbebaku, in a notification to the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX).
Agbebaku clarified that Ighodalo communicated his resignation and intent to pursue public service, adhering to sound corporate governance principles, effective December 31, 2023.
Quoting Ighodalo, Agbebaku stated, “With a mix of emotions, I announce my resignation as Chairman of Nigerian Breweries Plc effective December 31, 2023. I have chosen to dedicate myself to public service for our beloved country.”
Expressing pride in being part of a resilient organisation, Ighodalo acknowledged the company’s capacity to navigate Nigeria’s dynamic business landscape.
Amidst these changes, Sijbe Hiemstra, the longest-serving director, assumes the role of interim Chairman from January 1, 2024, overseeing board affairs until the appointment of a substantive chairman.
Furthermore, the board noted the conclusion of Ndidi Nwuneli’s tenure as an Independent Non-Executive Director and announced the appointment of Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli as a Non-Executive Director, effective January 1, 2023.
Agbebaku highlighted Ojekwe-Onyejeli’s extensive expertise in risk management within the financial services sector, showcasing a history of working with institutions such as Coronation Insurance Plc and Rand Merchant Bank.
