NPFL Weekend Highlights: Plateau United secures victory, Kano Pillars prevail, and Kwara United draws Rangers

In a thrilling weekend of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) action, several teams showcased their prowess on the pitch.

Plateau United FC of Jos managed to defeat Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0 in a well-fought encounter. The lone goal came from a well-executed free kick by Albert Hilary in the 31st minute. Plateau United dominated the game but struggled to breach the visitor’s resolute defence. Technical Adviser Mbwas Mangut hailed Sunshine Stars as a formidable opponent, and while satisfied with the win, he acknowledged the need to improve the frontline.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars FC emerged victorious with a 1-0 win against Rivers United FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Captain Rabiu Ali scored the decisive goal during injury time, delighting the home fans. Despite the loss, Rivers United’s coach, Stanley Eguma, commended his team’s performance and fighting spirit.

In another exciting encounter, Rangers International FC of Enugu and Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin battled to a 1-1 draw at the Kwara Stadium Complex. Kazeem Ogunleye opened the scoring for Rangers with a free kick, while Alao Mohammed equalised for Kwara United. Both coaches, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Kabir Dogo, shared their perspectives, with Ilechukwu considering the draw a significant achievement for his team, while Dogo believed Rangers were fortunate.

Gombe United FC secured a well-executed victory over Bendel Insurance of Benin with a lone goal. Mohammed Babaganaru, the head coach of Gombe United, praised his team’s successful plan to defeat the previously unbeaten Insurance side. Coach Monday Odigie of Bendel Insurance acknowledged the result as part of the unpredictability of football.

The weekend’s NPFL results also included Lobi Stars FC’s 2-0 win over Abia Warriors FC, Heartland FC and Katsina United FC playing to a 1-1 draw, Remo Stars FC defeating Sporting Lagos FC 2-1, and Akwa United FC and Shooting Stars FC battling to a goalless draw.

These matches provided an exciting showcase of Nigerian football talent, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next round of NPFL fixtures.
