The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has clarified that the implementation of the N35,000.00 per month wage award for Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will be funded from the treasury, as specified in a circular released by the Commission in Abuja.
In the words of Mr. Ekpo Nta, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NSIWC, “This only applies to offices that are treasury-funded.” He further added that non-treasury-funded Federal Government agencies should implement the same from their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) or statutory allocations.
Mr. Nta referred to the Memorandum of Understanding reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on October 2, which resulted from a dispute arising from the withdrawal of subsidies on the price of premium motor spirit (PMS).
He conveyed the approval of President Bola Tinubu for the wage award of N35,000 per month to all Federal Government workers, effective September 1, pending the signing of a new national minimum wage into law.
For any inquiries regarding the circular, Mr. Nta directed individuals to contact the commission.
