The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of a 22-year-old male tailoring apprentice, identified as Hakeem Mujib.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed this development on Monday.
Hundeyin disclosed that the command received information regarding the incident on Sunday night, but no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
He assured that the investigation would spare no effort in tracking down those suspected to be responsible for Mujib’s untimely death.
Varying accounts of why the young man was allegedly subjected to fatal beatings by certain individuals believed to be tailors. Some claim that the apprentice met his tragic end due to alleged theft, while others suggest he was targeted for suspicion of espionage in the Obadina area of Lagos Island.
According to reports, Mujib had sought rest with his friend named Kehinde in a two-storey building on Obadina Street, off Obe Street, Lagos Island, around 2:00 a.m. This occurred as he was returning from an errand assigned by his employer.
Tragically, it is recounted that he was mistaken for a robbery operative and mercilessly beaten by unidentified persons, ultimately succumbing to his injuries before help could arrive.
