Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has expressed its intention to establish and operate a television station within the institution, with the college’s Rector, Ibraheem Abdul, revealing this during a courtesy visit by the new Zonal Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Raphael Akpan, in Lagos.
Abdul emphasised that having a television station on campus would significantly enhance the training of students in communication and media skills. He sought the support of NBC in obtaining a television station licence, highlighting YABATECH’s previous successful operation of a radio station in compliance with the commission’s regulations.
“The college is committed to breaking new ground in the field of teaching and learning, aiming to produce graduates who can compete effectively on a global scale with practical experience,” the Rector stated. “This exciting development marks a new chapter for Yabatech Radio as it expands its reach and impact. With the assistance of NBC Lagos, the College is poised to achieve even greater accomplishments in the broadcasting sector.”
Abdul assured that the radio station would continue to adhere to the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Commission and actively support new initiatives aimed at improving the sector.
In response, Mr. Raphael Akpan commended the college’s management and the radio station board, expressing admiration for YABATECH’s notable achievements in the media industry. He praised YABATECH for its role in the media landscape and pledged the zone’s unwavering support in assisting the college in obtaining its television licence.
“This underscores the Commission’s recognition of YABATECH’s significant contributions to the broadcasting sector and dedication to fostering its growth,” Akpan stated.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of its licensees and assured Yabatech Radio of the Commission’s full support to enhance seamless operations.
