Abayomi, Omotosho, 13 commissioner-nominees now cleared by LSHA, two rejected

In a recent session, the Lagos State House of Assembly confirmed the appointments of 15 commissioner-nominees, including prominent figures such as Prof. Akin Abayomi and Mr. Gbenga Omotosho. However, the assembly rejected the other two nominees in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second batch.

During the session, the assembly also decided to postpone the confirmation of Mr. Tolani Akibu to another legislative day. These decisions were made following the presentation of a report to the House by Mr. Mojeed Fatai, the Chairman of the Screening Committee, during the plenary on Thursday.

It is worth noting that on August 23, the assembly had previously rejected 17 commissioner-nominees proposed by Governor Sanwo-Olu, which included former Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, and former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho. Unfortunately, no reasons or explanations were provided for their rejection.

In contrast, the lawmakers had confirmed 22 other nominees through a voice vote after their screening at the assembly’s Committee of the Whole during a previous plenary session. Governor Sanwo-Olu subsequently submitted a new list of nominees, including some who had been previously rejected, along with additional names.

During the plenary session, Speaker Obasa commended the committee for its meticulous screening of the nominees. The confirmed commissioner-nominees are Mr. Afolabi Tajudeen, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medem, Mrs. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, Mrs. Barakat Bakare, Mr. Olugbenga Omotosho, Mr. Mosopefoluwa George, Dr. Yekini Agbaje, Dr. Olumide Oluyinka, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, Dr. Iyabode Ayoola, and Mr. Sola Giwa.

Regrettably, the two nominees who faced rejection by the assembly are Mr. Olalere Odusote and the immediate past Commissioner for Budget, Mr. Samuel Egube.
