Nigerians have been given a solemn promise from their president, Bola Tinubu, who has pledged his renewed commitment to creating a harmonious and wealthy country. This statement was made in reaction to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision on February 25.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, conveyed this message in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.
President Tinubu expressed his embrace of the Tribunal’s judgement with a deep sense of responsibility and a commitment to serve all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliations, religious beliefs, or ethnic backgrounds.
The President commended the five-member bench, presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani, for their diligence, unwavering thoroughness, and professionalism in interpreting the law.
Tinubu reaffirmed his dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the Tribunal carries out its duties without hindrance, highlighting the panel’s impartiality in assessing the merits of the petitions brought before it.
He also reflected on the ongoing development of Nigeria’s legal system and the progress of Africa’s largest democracy. President Tinubu noted that this advancement was particularly significant at a time when democratic systems of governance were facing challenges in other parts of the continent.
The President commended the presidential candidates and political parties that lawfully exercised their rights by participating in the 2023 general elections and the subsequent judicial process, underscoring the affirmation of Nigeria’s democratic credentials.
He urged his challengers to inspire their supporters to prioritise patriotism over partisan interests, fostering support for government initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ lives.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to Nigerians for the mandate they have given him to serve, pledging to not only meet but exceed their expectations through diligent hard work alongside the team that has been assembled for this purpose.
