Collaboration with Denmark will improve food security in Lagos State – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State reaffirmed the government’s dedication to collaborating with other nations and private sectors to advance the state’s development.

Sanwo-Olu made this statement during a courtesy visit to the governor’s office in Alausa, Ikeja, by the Consul General and Head of Trade at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ms. Jette Bjerrum, and her delegation. The governor, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, underscored that this collaboration aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s call for investment.

Addressing the upcoming Nordic-Nigeria Connect conference scheduled for November, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that agriculture is a key focus of his administration.

The Nordic-Nigeria Connect is a high-powered conference centred on Smart City solutions and circular economy, organized by Nordic countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

Sanwo-Olu expressed the government’s readiness to collaborate with the Kingdom of Denmark, particularly in the agricultural sector, to bolster food security. He noted that Lagos, despite being Nigeria’s smallest state in terms of land mass, hosts the highest population, resulting in substantial food demand.

The governor highlighted the government’s intent to track the origin of agricultural produce to reduce food costs and enhance quality as part of its food security initiative.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised the state’s significant investments in technology, agriculture, education, transportation, and other sectors. He indicated that these initiatives align with the THEMES Plus Plus agenda, which includes key focus areas such as Transportation and Traffic Management; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos State a 21st Century Megacity; Entertainment & Tourism; Security & Governance; Social Inclusion; Gender Equality, and Youth Empowerment.

In her response, Bjerrum noted that President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to making Nigeria open for business prompted their readiness to partner with the state government. She stressed the importance of understanding the state government’s agenda ahead of the Nordic Nigeria Connect event, prompting their visit.
