Lagos State Assembly forms committee to investigate missing intestine case

The Lagos State House of Assembly has taken action in reaction to the disturbing situation of 12-year-old Adebola Akin-Bright, whose small intestine purportedly vanished during medical treatment. On Monday, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa formed an ad hoc committee to investigate the subject extensively.

The incident came to public attention when the boy’s mother, Abiodun Deborah, expressed her distress over the disappearance of her child’s small intestine during treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). In light of these allegations, Speaker Obasa announced the formation of the ad-hoc committee, charging them with the task of investigating the issue and reporting their findings to the house within the next two weeks.

The Majority Leader, Mr. Noheem Adams, was named as the committee’s chairman, with other members including Mr. Temitope Adewale, Mr. Steve Ogundipe, Mr. Surajudeen Tijani, and Mr. Lawal Musibau.

The speaker also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his visit to the 12-year-old boy, hailing the governor’s actions as a reflection of a responsive and compassionate government. He noted that the governor’s visit had provided hope and reassurance to the family.

However, Speaker Obasa stressed the importance of establishing a system to address challenges affecting institutions in the state and emphasised the need to get to the root of the problem.

Several lawmakers also voiced their support for the investigation and called for increased scrutiny of the state’s healthcare sector. They highlighted the importance of the pending Organ Harvesting law, which has a crucial role to play in advancing the state’s healthcare system.

In addition, lawmakers praised the boy’s mother for her bravery in drawing attention to her son’s plight and thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his considerate and sympathetic response.

The assembly members urged the National Assembly and other state legislatures to implement comprehensive laws related to organ harvesting to safeguard the well-being of citizens.
